End of An Era

Hello, thanks for visiting my website!

First of all, Prayers and Warm Energy to the victims of the giant earthquake that hit Western China.

On a much less earth-changing note: I am no longer with the Native Language label. While I enjoyed making Sara Gazarek's 3 records (and my record Let it Go) with them, it's time to part ways. Joe Sherbanee and Robb Robinson are great guys, and I wish the very best to them and their future in the music business.

Off to work on music for the next record! It will be recorded in August, and out in the fall this year.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you have a good time while you are here.
Keep the music playing-

Hola from Mexico

Down in San Miguel de Allende, visiting my mom Sandy, who moved here about 8 months ago. What a gorgeous city. It's an old colonial town, very Spanish influenced. It could pass for a city in Europe. Wonderful people, wonderful buildings, wonderful food. Wow. I can't wait to come back.

I'll be back at the Mint for the Monday night Groove Pocket on April 28. Down in San Diego on the 30th at Anthology too.

i hope you enjoy your stay at joshnelsonmusic.com. We know you have your choice of jazz pianists, and we're delighted you have chosen us. If there's anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable, please let us know.

A day in the life...

Wow, what a beautiful day today. Thanks Mother Nature!

Working on a great double bass concerto by Frank Proto for my buddy Matt Cory's Doctoral Recital. May 18 at Charlie O's in Valley Glen! Check it.

Make sure you stop by the Calendar page... I have a group of gigs featuring the music from my latest record "Let it Go" in mid April (specifically April 15, 17, 18, and 19).

My favorite records right now: "Matita Pere"- Antonio Carlos Jobim (thanks Ariel!), "Something for You"- Eliane Elias (Bill Evans tribute), "Wide Awake"- New West Guitar Quartet.

Recent gigs of note: I played at the Jakarta Jazz Festival and the Manila Jazz Festival in March with singer Sara Gazarek. That was wild!

Book I'm reading now: Haruki Murakami- "Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman"

Practicing, Writing, and Life

Back from some traveling with Sara Gazarek, and now having a bit more time to relax and write some new music. What a great thing it is to be a musician!

My first short film score for a movie called "Use as Directed" will receive it's first film festival showing this Sunday at the Method Film Festival in Calabassas, California. Info about the festival is at this link: http://www.methodfest.com/08pages/schedule/screeningsked.htm

Travels

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you enjoy yourself.
Check out the Music page, the gallery, and drop me a note on the contact page while you're here.

In the beautiful city of Tokyo Japan now, performing at my favorite club The Cotton Club with Sara Gazarek (voc), Sam Minaie (bass), and Zach Harmon (drums). We're having a ball! Great music, great people, great hang. I highly recommend a visit to Japan if you've never been.

And then I'm back in LA for the 2nd half of March, so please come check out some shows then. Especially March 30th at Rosalie and Alva's for a duo concert with wonderful guitarist John Storie. Go to the Calendar page for more details.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends legendary jazz bassist Dennis Irwin, who passed away on Monday. You will be missed!

With much love,
josh
